What is Budget-friendly Kangaroo’s Smart Doorbell Camera?

Kangaroo is a newer home security camera that just released its first doorbell camera. It was founded in 2018. Kangaroo prides itself on providing easy-to-use, secure equipment at a reasonable price, and it is aiming to make home security systems available to everyone. We didn’t want to spend a lot of money on a doorbell camera, so we looked for one that wasn’t too expensive. That said, while we needed something inexpensive, we didn’t want it to be of poor quality. That means a doorbell camera with features like notifications, night vision, and video, to mention a few.

Here’s how Kangaroo fared in terms of our favorite features

Budget-friendly Kangaroo’s Smart Doorbell Camera’s most appealing feature was its affordability

The brand new Doorbell Camera + Chime is one of the most affordable doorbell security cameras on the market, costing only $19.99. 1 Other doorbell cameras, such as the Nest Hello and Ring doorbells that we evaluated, range in price from $99.99 to $229.99.

Easy to Setup

The Doorbell Camera + Chime was a breeze to set up. The doorbell came with a screw mount and an adhesive backing. We were grateful for the peel-and-stick option, as that is how we installed our camera.

Battery-Operated

Another aspect that stuck out to us was the fact that this doorbell was battery-operated, which eliminated the need for hardwiring. Our house is rented, therefore we wouldn’t receive our home security deposit returned if there was any damage when we left. As a result, having the option of having a doorbell without hardwiring was a plus.

Here are some of the characteristics of Budget-friendly Kangaroo’s Smart Doorbell Camera that were lacking:

It’s worth noting that this doorbell camera doesn’t include a live video option, or any video option for that matter

When motion was detected, the camera only shot static pictures. Those photographs were stitched together in a flip book-like pattern. We felt the concept was clever, but it wasn’t as useful as genuine video footage.

We couldn’t converse with the person outside using the Kangaroo app because the doorbell camera didn’t have a speaker or microphone integrated in.

We were surprised that the Kangaroo didn’t have two-way audio, which is a very normal feature for other doorbells. We could only observe what was happening just in front of our door because this doorbell camera only had a 60-degree field of view. For example, when an item was delivered right to our door, we received a photo of the UPS delivery person.

However, if the box was brought at the bottom of our stairs, it was possible that it would be out of view and we would not be able to photograph it. Basically, the photos we received were the same width as a snapshot taken on our cellphones, so we wouldn’t be told if the movement wasn’t exactly within that field of view.

Smart Platform Integration

We were unable to link the Kangaroo Doorbell + Chime to Alexa or Google Assistant because it did not integrate with other smart home systems. It said, the firm is trying to make that a possibility in the future as a feature of the Porch Protection Plan update.

The Kangaroo Doorbell Camera + Charm, in our opinion, was an example of getting what you pay for in terms of quality

While the doorbell camera had a few capabilities for a low price, such as picture capture, night vision, and alert notifications, it lacked video and two-way audio, which most of the top doorbell security cameras on the market do.

However, because we have other home security cameras outside our home, we didn’t mind that this doorbell didn’t have video. We wanted a simple way to see who was at our door without constantly getting up to answer it, and Kangaroo met that need.
