Oneplus NORD2 with a unique design

From the beginning, OnePlus NORD2 with a unique design has positioned its Nord midrange phones as a less priced, standalone brand from its flagship smartphones among the greatest budget phones available. The boundary between the two appears to be blurrier than ever with the Nord 2, which is a direct sequel to the original Nord launched last year.

While the first Nord had its own personality, with features like an ultrawide selfie camera and a distinctive design, the Nord 2 seems more like a stripped-down flagship. It is a phone with a camera bump that is remarkably similar to that of the OnePlus 9, and while the individual sensors are different, the cameras perform the same duties. However, all of the key features remain: a bright, high-refresh-rate screen, long battery life, and simple software.

The OnePlus Nord 2 is a capable handset with a great camera, top-notch performance, and intuitive software

The smartphone definitely draws influence from the company’s more expensive phones, namely the OnePlus 9, and it is one of the greatest budget phones available. With a less expensive, non-flagship beginning price, these sacrifices are difficult to justify. The OnePlus Nord 2 is priced at £399 / €399 for the 8GB RAM / 128GB storage variant, and £469 / €499 for the 12GB RAM / 256GB storage option. (The Nord 2 isn’t available in the United States, but those costs approximately translate to $470 and $588, respectively.)

The OnePlus Nord 2  is a phone with a rectangular camera bump

The OnePlus Nord 2 features a 6.43-inch display, which is somewhat smaller than the OnePlus 9 (which has a 6.55-inch display), but it generally looks quite similar. It is a phone with a camera bump with three lenses, a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera on the top left, and a USB-C port on the bottom (but sadly, no headphone jack). A quick in-display fingerprint sensor handles biometrics, while a tactile slider on the right of the phone toggles between quiet and vibrating mode.

The phone has Gorilla Glass on the front and back, but because the frame is plastic, you might want to use a protection if you’re concerned about the finish wearing off. Aside than that, I didn’t notice the phone bending any more than a standard metal phone. Among the greatest budget phones available, The Nord 2 lacks an official IP certification for dust and water protection, much like the original Nord.

This is a 5G phone, with compatibility for sub-6GHz

Given that the latter high-speed, low-range network type has just recently begun to roll out in the Nord 2’s launch markets, it’s unlikely that many consumers would notice.

The processor, a MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI rather than one of Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 processors, is the most obvious indicator that this isn’t a premium OnePlus smartphone.

The general performance of Oneplus NORD2 with a unique design

Qualcomm-exclusive features like high-quality AptX Bluetooth audio aren’t available, but moving between applications was seamless, and the CPUs’ GPU gladly took use of the phone’s flawless 90Hz display when browsing through even a rather visually heavy Twitter feed (which, in comparison, stuttered on the original Nord). However, while the phone was a little sluggish to wake up on a few instances, general performance was on level with, if not significantly better than, the original Nord in regular use.

The 1080p screen of the Nord 2 is typically good

It performs admirably in every way that an OLED display should. Among the greatest budget phones available, oneplus NORD 2 Colors are vibrant, whites are sharp, and blacks are, well, black. Its 90Hz refresh rate is a step down from the 120Hz display used on phones like the OnePlus 9, but I didn’t detect any difference in practice.

Because this phone with a camera bump prioritizes charging speeds over battery life, it’s no surprise that the Nord 2 has the same Warp Charge 65 charging technology as the OnePlus 9. It also features the same split-battery architecture, which allows the 4500mAh cell to charge completely in 35 minutes.
