Review of the Samsung Galaxy A72 – a flagship midrange

Today, we will be at your service by reviewing the Samsung Galaxy A72, which is one of the newest mid-range phones of this Korean company. So stay tuned for more. In this article, we are going to review the Samsung Galaxy A72.

In the last days of March, Samsung unveiled the newest members of the Galaxy A series, this time under the name Awesome. The A72 and A52 were two phones that competed with heavy responsibility. One of the main competitors of these phones is their previous generation, A71 and A51, which have made things more difficult for their next generation due to their very successful presence in the market.

However, the Galaxy A72 and A52 hit the market as expected from the latest generation of the family, with a new look, better specs and more attractiveness than the previous generation. The A72 and A52 are not much different from each other, the bigger brother has larger dimensions, and because of these dimensions, it uses a larger screen and battery, and of course, one more camera. Further advantages have also led to higher prices for the A72 than the A52.

On paper, the Galaxy A72 is a mid-range, even quasi-attractive flagship with features like its size. But by examining the Samsung Galaxy A72, we want to find out how fitting the Awesome title is and whether the A72 is a good choice in its price range.

Design of Samsung Galaxy A72

One of the main changes we see in the Galaxy A72 compared to its predecessor is the design. Apart from the fact that this phone is less big and weighs more; On the back cover, we see that Samsung, like the flagships of the Note and S series, has designed the body of this device matte. The A72 is available in 4 Awesome colors: black, blue, white and purple. The version we had for review was Awesome Black.

Of course, we have to point out that the back cover of this phone, like the flagship Note 20 and S20, is made of polycarbonate. This may be a negative point for flagship phones, but it is quite normal for mid-range phones. This frame is designed to be completely flat. With the exception of the camera case, which is located at the top left, we only see the Samsung logo at the bottom of the back cover. The camera housing is not very protruding, but it also causes it to sag slightly when placed on a flat surface. The design of this part is almost similar to the Samsung Note series, and the new camera design style that we saw in the S21 series is not used in the A72.

The frame around the phone looks like a plastic one, and to the right of it are the volume and power keys. The main speaker, microphone, USB-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack are located on the bottom edge. The left edge is completely empty, and at the top edge are the SIM card slots and the memory card (either the second SIM card or the memory card) and the noise canceling microphone.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy A72 uses a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels (FHD +). In terms of image size and accuracy, this display is no different from last year’s Galaxy A71, but a positive point has been added to this phone and that is the higher refresh rate (90 Hz). These days, it is very common to use screens with higher refresh rates in flagship phones. But when this feature is used for mid-range phones like the A72, the issue becomes much more exciting. Why the difference between smooth and smooth menus, web browsing, games and almost everything can be clearly seen in the comparison of 60 and 90 Hz modes. Of course, the point about this feature in the A72 is that the higher refresh rate does not have Adaptive mode or auto-tuning based on the content of the display, and it can only be set to 60 or 90 Hz.

Hardware

This year, Samsung also decided to use the Snapdragon chipset for its mid-range phone. Surely, despite the criticism of the performance of Exynos chipsets compared to Snapdragon, this decision by Samsung will bring less criticism. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 720 is designed with an 8-nanometer architecture and comes with two 2.3 GHz Kryo 465 Gold cores, six 1.8 GHz Kryo 465 Silver cores and an Adreno 618 graphics processor.

The Snapdragon 720G is not much different on paper than the Snapdragon 730 used in the Galaxy A71, and with the exception of the 100 MHz clock, the gold cores are virtually no different. Of course, you have to keep in mind that the 720G is a newer chip, and naturally the design and construction is more optimized. The chip in the Galaxy A72 comes with 8.6 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage memory, but with the hybrid memory card slot, it is possible to increase the internal space for this phone. The version we had for review was 128.6 GB.

Camera

The main sensor of the 64-megapixel camera is a wide type with an aperture of f / 1.8. Equipped with optical image stabilization and phase-detection autofocus, the camera captures 12-megapixel images by default thanks to pixel blending technology. But in the camera software section, it is possible to activate the 64 megapixel mode.

In addition to the main camera, Samsung has included a 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f / 2.2 and a viewing angle of 123 degrees. A 5-megapixel camera with f / 2.4 for close-ups and macro images is also included in the camera compartment. But perhaps the most attractive side camera of this phone is its 8-megapixel telephoto sensor, which is used for zoom or zoom photography. Like the main camera, this camera has optical image stabilization and phase detection autofocus and can provide 3x zoom optically. The selfie camera of this phone, which is located in the hole inside the screen, is 32 megapixels, wide type with f / 2.2.
