The ROG Flow X13 laptop is one of the highlights of CES 2021, which at first glance may look like other pre-portable and very light laptops on the market. A noteworthy point about the ROG Flow X13 is the ROG XG Mobile, through which the laptop can be connected to an external graphics card. The last time we saw such a thing was in 2007, when the ROG XG Station was introduced by Asus. XG Mobile is smaller than a regular external graphics card bracket. In fact, Asus intends to largely overcome the hardware limitations with the help of this device.

The XG Mobile measures 29 x 208 x 155 mm and weighs only 1 kg. Inside the device is an external graphics card equipped with RTX 3080 with a frequency of 1810 MHz and a thermal power of 150 watts, which dissipates the heat generated by the device through its cooling system. Such a design increases the contact area by up to 54% compared to heat pipes commonly used in other devices. In addition, the laptop itself has a very thin design and is only 15.8 mm thick.
Gamers can enjoy higher performance by connecting the XG Mobile external graphics card to the Flow X13. Obviously, many promises had been made in the past, but none of them came true. Asus believes that such a solution is intended to overcome technical limitations, and with the help of their proprietary interface, which provides the user with more speed compared to the Thunderbolt 3, it will be possible to use next-generation graphics cards such as the RTX 3080. The dedicated Asus port can allocate 63 Gbps bandwidth exclusively to graphics via a direct processor connection with a PCIe 3.0 x8 interface. The other part is the USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, through which you can achieve a speed of 10 Gbps (for input and output). Use liquid metal!
The Flow X13 uses a liquid metal thermal compound to cool its CPU, which was previously seen on the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE. The heat generated in the processor, graphics card and VRM is directed outwards by two heat transfer tubes, a heat module with three large heatsinks and output fans. The dual Arc Flow fans installed in this laptop can transfer heat to the outside of the system in a better way by using the maximum air flow. The thermal module has 100 dust filters that prevent airborne particles from entering the fans and heatsinks.
