Unlike gaming mice, productivity mice have a more understated aesthetic. The HP 930 Creator Wireless Mouse ($89.99) is the newest high-end office mouse for power users, and it’s about as far out as productivity mice get. Its robust shape makes it ideal for lengthy days at the office. In addition to robust customization features and long battery life, the 930 Creator competes with premier office mice like the $99.99 Logitech MX Master 3, our Editors’ Choice pick in this category. For creative professionals and everybody else, it’s a great productivity mouse. The battery life of The HP 930 Creator Wireless Mouse is excellent.

It’s an ideal Mouse at the Office

The HP 930 Creator, the newest high-end office mouse for power users, is based on what we consider to be the modern premium office mouse model. It features a tall, wide design—1.72 by 3.06 by 4.88 inches (HWD)—that feels even wider when you consider the large, ripple-textured thumb support that protrudes from the left side. It is rather substantial for a mouse, weighing 4.66 ounces; you may feel the bulk while precision picture editing and gaming, but it does not seem heavy or light otherwise. The slightly slanted chassis gives ample support across your entire hand’s width, and the thumb wing allows you to rest your hand on the mouse without clutching it tightly.

There are ten buttons on the 930 Creator, seven of which may be customized. It’s a great productivity mouse. The standard configuration is on top: two clicks, a scroll wheel, and a button in the center column. The scroll wheel can tilt left or right in addition to the typical center click.

Along the seam between the mouse’s top and side plates, four more buttons are lined up

The first three are set to back, Windows task view, and forward, and they can all be changed. The last button is a quick choose button, which allows you to switch between the mouse’s three wireless channels. It’s positioned somewhat behind the others. When you pair the mouse with various devices, the quick switch lets you switch between them with only a few clicks. If you use a laptop and a desktop computer every day, having the flexibility to switch between them is really useful. The battery life of The HP 930 Creator Wireless Mouse is excellent as well.

Let’s take a closer look at those signals

The 930 Creator has two Bluetooth channels for pairing with any Bluetooth-enabled device, as well as a low-latency 2.4GHz wireless connection through a wireless USB dongle. It’s a great productivity mouse. It is based on what we consider to be the modern premium office mouse model. In recent years, the 2.4GHz dongle has been the connection of choice, particularly among gamers, because it is more stable and introduces less lag. Bluetooth, on the other hand, uses less power and can connect to a larger range of devices. Even in a “packed” situation with a lot of Bluetooth signals in the air, all three channels worked great for ordinary computing, including word processing and web browsing. A dongle storage slot is hidden beneath a detachable plate that covers the mouse’s bottom, ensuring that you don’t lose that important piece of hardware.

The 930 Creator has excellent battery life regardless of whether it is used in Bluetooth or 2.4GHz mode. The mouse should last up to 12 weeks on a single charge, according to HP. When the mouse has to be charged, you can use it while connecting it in via the USB-C charging cord. However, unlike many wireless mouse, it will not establish a wired connection via the cord, so keep your wireless connection open.

Configuration Options in Abundance

The HP 930 Creator Wireless Mouse is based on what we consider to be the modern premium office mouse model. The HP Accessory Center, HP’s setup software for productivity gear, gives you access to a surprising number of customization options on the 930 Creator. The software (which works on both Windows and macOS) has a dark and basic appearance, but it’s quite functional. It lets you remap the majority of the mouse’s buttons and create a variety of custom non-input shortcuts, among other things. You don’t get complete control, like with many productivity mice. Seven of the ten buttons on the 930 Creator may be remapped using HP Accessory Center; the left click, wireless select, and the button right below the scroll wheel (which toggles between segmented and unconstrained wheel-scrolling) are all locked. It’s not a significant loss—you shouldn’t remap either of the first two—but restricting users in this way has always felt rude.
