A decent mobile weather app can help you decide whether you should bring an umbrella to work or prepare for more severe weather. With severe weather threatening coastal regions around the country, it’s a good idea to check the forecast or radar for upcoming conditions. You can do this wherever you are, whenever you want, with a mobile weather app.

1weather is among the top weather apps for Android and iOS

The mobile weather app gives you a wide range of weather forecasts and meteorological data, but not all of them are equal. One of the most difficult tasks for mobile developers is to create an appealing design, yet 1Weather (free) has plenty of it. It’s also jam-packed with widgets of all shapes, sizes, and types to get weather information via small widgets.

1Weather app is a sleek, modern interface that gives you all of the important weather information at a glance. Do you want to learn more? In-depth forecast information is always just a tap away.

The review of 1 weather app

By Design, the Weather

Although 1Weather claims to be the most aesthetically beautiful weather app, it doesn’t mean it’s not as insightful and data-rich. It even crammed more information into its home page than the geeky Editors’ Choice Weather Underground. Visibility, barometric pressure, humidity, wind speed/direction, UV index, dew point, temperature, and likelihood of precipitation are all displayed on the map’s main panel. Each measurement has its own glyph, and when you press it, you’ll get a helpful explanation. It’s lovely.

The display

Swiping right brings up more displays, including hourly and extended forecasts in symbols, likelihood of precipitation for the week, an animated map, moon phases, and dawn and sunset times. Each display is neatly designed using creative iconography, with the exception of the radar map and text-based forecasts. An inverted umbrella, for example, implies that there is no danger of rain, and an eyeball is shorthand for visibility. However, I was unable to get 1Weather to display the sunrise and sunset hours for the following day.

On the extended and hourly forecast page, where you glide your finger back and forth over a graph to receive the forecast for a specific time or day, my favorite design flourish is located. A graph depicting high and low temperatures with bars indicating the likelihood of precipitation is shared. You can examine a day’s or a week’s worth of data at a glance, or you can drill down for more details. It’s a clever way of presenting a lot of data.

1Weather app, like most weather apps, features a radar map with a variety of layers that you can turn on and off. I was startled to see numerous calamities as overlays, thus in addition to the regular radar, clouds, temperature, and so on, you can see adjacent fires.

Design

1Weather app is all about looking good, and it succeeds in that regard. However, the software is still only a framework for data gathered from forecast providers, and the data from all the many sources doesn’t always match perfectly. The text forecasts, for example, are large blocks of words that can be difficult to see against the app’s Creative Commons licensed imagery. Also, against 1Weather’s elegant typography and symbols, those graphics appear low-res and tacky. Thankfully, the app provides a number of look options that allow you to remedy some of these difficulties.

Another issue with the design is that altering it can make the app unreliable at times. When attempting to change the design of the app on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, I had a number of crashes. The app crashed three times before launching after I changed the theme from “live weather” to “space.”

Widgets

Most people will likely prefer to get weather information via small widgets rather than large apps, and 1Weather app has plenty of them. Six widgets of various shapes and sizes are pre-installed in the app. Each one allows you pick a theme and a location, allowing you to personalize them to your heart’s delight. 1Weather app likewise displays weather information in your notification tray and bar, however Weather Underground is more useful and artistic in this regard.
